hi, we're so glad you're here

A tiny shop with a big soft spot for this neighborhood.

Mocha & Matcha is run by two old friends, a handful of wonderful baristas, one very early-rising baker and a shop dog named Mabel. Here's how we got here.

how it started

Two friends, two favorite drinks, one tiny cart.

Rosa grew up on thick, cinnamon-spiked hot chocolate at Grandma's kitchen table. Jun grew up watching Grandpa whisk matcha every single morning in a chipped ceramic bowl. They met years later as baristas at a busy downtown café and spent most of their breaks arguing about which drink was better.

In the spring of 2019 they stopped arguing and built a cart. Every Saturday at the Old Town farmers' market they served exactly two drinks, a mocha and a matcha latte, and somehow sold out every week.

Two years (and a lot of cold mornings) later, the old flower shop on Linden Avenue came up for rent. We painted the walls the colors of our favorite drinks, rescued a secondhand espresso machine named Marigold and opened the doors. We've been the neighborhood's living room ever since.

“We wanted a place where it's totally normal to stay for three hours and one cortado.”

Saturdays at the Old Town farmers' market. Two drinks, one very long line and a lot of hand-warmers.

Four walls & Marigold

We moved into the old flower shop on Linden Ave with a secondhand espresso machine we named Marigold. She's still pulling shots.

Hello, pastry case

Theo joined us and started baking before sunrise. The weekend cinnamon rolls have had a fan club ever since.

Same two favorite drinks, a much longer menu and the best neighbors anyone could ask for.

what we care about

The little things are the big things.

✦

Good beans, fairly bought

Our espresso comes from a small roaster ten minutes away who buys directly from farms in Colombia, Ethiopia and Guatemala.

❀

Matcha with roots

Ceremonial-grade matcha from a fourth-generation family farm in Uji, Japan. Sifted and whisked by hand, always.

♥

Neighbors first

Local art on the walls (new every month), a pay-it-forward board and free coffee for teachers on the first Friday of the month.

✿

Less waste, more care

Bring your own mug for 50¢ off. Our cups are compostable, and our coffee grounds feed the community garden down the block.
